"I have good news" says Benedetto Del Zoppo, Sport Department Responsible of the Italian Rafting Federation (FIRAFT): the Italian Paralympic Committee (C.I.P.) recognized Rafting as an official sport by means of a Memorandum of Understanding and the next months the ParaRafting datas will be straight observed and analized by CIP. It is a historical moment, an event that will benefit the entire Italian Federation and represents an example for the other countries. Indeed the Paralympic field is a driving force for Sport in general, from the commercial team building to a new opportunity for other Para-athletes who are looking for adrenaline, fun and healty competition.

"Italy is selecting national teams through regular meetings for the the First World ParaRafting Championships ever, that will be organized in Kiev from 4th to 7th October 2019 by the Ukranian Rafting Federation and WRF" said Max Manfredi, Italian Member of the WRF Para-Rafting Commission.

On 8th March 2019 the International Federation for Sport Officials (IFSO) was created in The Hague (Netherlands). The first general assembly took place at the Peace Palace, the headquarters of the International Court of Justice. The World Rafting Federation, represented by President Danilo Barmaz, was present as a founding member.

AFTER THE SUCCESS OF THE FIRST WORLD RAFTING CHAMPIONSHIP IN ITALY, LAST JULY, TUNCELI WILL HOST THE SENIOR WORLD CHAMPS: TURKEY 2019.

After several discussions about the uncertain situation in Sort (Spain) due to force majeure, the Executive board, bearing in mind the positive reaction that the Turkish organizing Committee is creating by building a withewater stadium and by hosting international teams for free of charge, voted to convert the Tunceli World Cup into the World Rafting Championship of 2019 thanks to the strong support of the WRF Vice-President Yardimci.

Teams from all over the world will paddle from 8th to 13th June in the rugged heart of Eastern Anatolia: the 3rd level river Munzur will be in flood, offering not only an amazing natural scenario that is now covered in snow but also a new semi-artificial course for RX and slalom that will be on 11th and 12th June, after the traditional downriver on 10th, the day after the opening ceremony.

"We are sure that the Turkish Federation and the Local Organising Committee, thanks to the strong support by the Local Authorities, will host an excellent event that will reveal the successful collaboration between WRF and Turkish Federation that since the beginning of the year is already working hard in every Rafting field from the training of its athletes, who took gold in many categories in the last years Championships, to the organization, the formation of

professional technicians with workshops for guides and coaches, applying the WRF Training Programme, and the building of facilities that will host rafters from all over the world, as happened the last year in Dalaman for the international test competition" said the WRF President Danilo Barmaz.

The first World Rafting Federation World Cup of 2019 will be in Tunceli, in the Central-Eastern Turkey from 8th to 13th June: 5 months left to the event and the Turkish Federation is already working hard in every Rafting field from the training of its athletes, that took gold in many categories in the last years Championships, to the organization, the formation of professional technicians with WRF workshops and the building of facilities that will host rafters from all over the world, as the last year happened in Dalaman for the international test competition.

The first WRF Pan-American will be held in the Rio Fuy (Chile) in November 2020, whereas the 2022 edition will be organised in Brazil in Santa Catarina in November.

Brasil Rafting Association has agreed to step aside for two years in its pursuit of staging the WRF Pan-American Championships, the Pan- America’s largest rafting event, handing Chilean Rafting Federation the 2020 Champs.

On Monday, the President of Brasil Rafting Association, Mr Willian Thomaz, and the President of the Chilean Rafting Federation, Mr Cristian Huenchuleo, announced it had reached an agreement with the WRF to host the coming WRF Pan-Americans.

Brasil and Chile were the official bidders for 2020. Earlier this month, the WRF decided to hold an unprecedented double vote for the first and second Pan-Americans to ensure two strong hosts at a

time when few other countries were prepared to take on the cost of staging the event.

The agreement will need to be ratified by WRF Executive Board members at the first working meeting, but that session is expected provide the necessary rubber stamp.

Both the Federations delegations expressed their excitement at the decision to award their cities the Pan-American Championships.

“In the coming year we will prepare the event with all our energy” Mr Cristian Huenchuleo, President of the Chilean Rafting Federation, said.

“It is hard to imagine something better. Ensuring the stability of the Pan-American Championships for the athletes of the continent for the next 4 years is something amazing,” Mr Massimo Desiati, WRF Executive Board member said.

“We are ready to collaborate with Mr Huenchuleo and the Chilean Rafting Federation for the success of the first WRF Pan-Americans” said Ms Rebeca Fernandes, Vice-President of the Brasil Rafting Association, “this is a win-win-win situation for Brasil, Chile and the entire rafting

sport movement”.

"These are two great rivers from two great countries with a great rafting history” said WRF President, Mr Danilo Barmaz, "both cities are very enthusiastic about the Champs and are promoting the WRF spirit in a fantastic way."

President's annual report: Happy New Rafting Year

It is with great pleasure that I write to all of you and wish you a wonderful 2019.

2018 is getting to an end and we will all carry with us all the memories of this historical year: a year that saw our birth and our steady growth; a year that, beside all successes, is the first step of a new era for rafting.

In a year (not even a year, actually, as we will celebrate our first birthday at the end of January) many things have been achieved: we overcame several difficulties and, even when we made some mistakes, we always acted in good faith.

In these few months,

- we founded a democratic, operational and legally recognised International Sport Federation, a platform where all members are equally important and to which all can (must) contribute;

- 25 national federations were created and/or structured, so that they could be recognised by their respective National Sport Authority, Government or Olympic Committee (with all the related pros) and consequently enter the WRF as full members;

- the judges’ pool was enlarged and structured, as well as the data collection and management system;

- new competition formats were created: RX, RX mixed, World Cup, biennial World Championships, national competition system, international youth training camps, coaches’ seminars;

- the national/international guides system was structured and made operational in many different nations, helping the national WRF members to create a virtuous circle between competitive and commercial activity;

- a Junior and U23 World Championship was organised and successfully delivered: this event was a first timer for many different reasons. Notably, the first event where canoe slalom and rafting happened together and the first time where so many youngsters (120) were at the start of an international rafting event;

- the first para-rafting event was organised, paving the way for a more inclusive and accessible sport;

- the WRF social media and press department grew under the impulse of young and committed people and we can now enjoy a truly global reach;

- important interventions and initiatives for the protection of rivers all over the world were supported and implemented.

All these achievements gave rafting and the WRF a brand new positioning in the international sport world: thanks to the recognition by the International Canoe Federation (ICF, still maintaining a full autonomy) we are now under the direct observation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The signature of the Memorandum of Understanding with the ICF was the first important step toward a fruitful and friendly cooperation between two organisations that speak the same language: the language of paddlesports.

In a few words, many goals were achieved; others are about to be achieved or are developing quickly. However, much is still to be done and achieved by all of us: we were born with a great team spirit and we must keep growing operating as a team; this is why proactive discussions and critics will always be welcome, as there is no growth without debate.

Next year will be a very important one: we will need to confirm what was already done and improve and correct what must be improved.

World Rafting Championships, World Para-Rafting Championships, World Cups, National Championships, Youth Training Camps will be the most important events happening in 2019.

In addition, the new WRF Training Centre will soon open in Argentière la Bessée, France, thanks to the cooperation with the French Canoe and Kayak Federation.

Finally, 2019 will also see the opening of continental confederations headquarters.

I want to thank all of you (athletes, coaches, officials) that believed in this project and gave and are giving valuable contributions to it.

- National Federation Presidents: I know that for many of you the last months were not easy, as the fear of the unknown often freezes us and it is hard to change our habits so quickly.

The past is part of our background and we can only look at a bright future if we look at the past with a positive attitude. Passion drove our first steps, and passion must always drive us toward the achievement of positive results. Polemics for the sake of polemics are not part of our DNA: we are proud of what we are achieving with the goal of giving a bright future to our sport and to our athletes.

- “my” Board, that contributed wholeheartedly to the WRF development and always put the collective interest ahead of their personal or national interest.

- the “small” rafting nations, that represent our added value and gave our sport a truly universal dimension and demonstrated that rafting really is a sport for all.

- the heads and the main members of all commissions: Oleksandr, Stefan, Zdeslav, Xavier, Huenchuleo, Francesco F., Francesco C, Nikita, Pavlina, Claudia, Caterina, Misha, Max M., Murat and all others led by a great Secretary General, Matteo, the heart and soul of WRF!

- the ICF, the ICF President, Mr. Javier Perurena Lopez, and the ICF Board and staff. They all welcomed us in Budapest (at the ICF Congress) as if we were life-long partners and are working with us on common projects that will ensure a bright common future.

- Mr. Ivo Ferriani, a great friend of rafting and of sports. He is the one that first believed in our potential and made it possible for us to pursue our goals and dreams.

- all our young rafters that are proving to be the real WRF asset.
